{"id":2998,"date":"2023-12-08T21:47:20","date_gmt":"2023-12-08T20:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/?p=2998"},"modified":"2024-01-05T10:30:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-05T09:30:36","slug":"schummel-badges-cheat-badges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/2023\/12\/schummel-badges-cheat-badges\/","title":{"rendered":"Schummel-Badges (Cheat Badges)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"#english\"><em>(English Version below)<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Badges sind kleine Abzeichen, die man in bestimmten Situationen bekommen kann (zu den verschiedenen M\u00f6glichkeiten hatten <a href=\"https:\/\/ceur-ws.org\/Vol-1227\/paper52.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stefan Meier und ich 2014 ein Workshop-Paper auf der DELFI vorgestellt<\/a>). Im MOOC &#8222;Kosten- und Leistungsrechnung&#8220; (<a href=\"https:\/\/lernen.oncampus.de\/blocks\/ocproducts\/product.php?id=2f30a110001cb22c621ad18630428d21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hier auf oncampus<\/a> oder <a href=\"https:\/\/futurelearnlab.de\/hub\/blocks\/ildmetaselect\/detailpage.php?id=279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hier im FutureLearnLab<\/a>) haben wir sie aber anders eingesetzt: Statt Lernfortschritte zu belohnen, sollten sie die Lernenden davon abhalten, vorschnell zu schummeln. Wir hatten im Kurs aber Wege eingebaut, wie &#8222;hilflose Lernende&#8220; etwas schummeln und damit weitere Hilfestellungen erhalten konnten.<\/p>\n<h2>Wof\u00fcr brauchten wir eine L\u00f6sung?<\/h2>\n<p>Wir haben im MOOC &#8222;Kosten- und Leistungsrechnung&#8220; Aufgaben gestellt und ein L\u00f6sungsvideo dazu angeboten. Wir wollten aber nicht, dass die Lernenden einfach die L\u00f6sungsvideos anschauen, und gar nicht erst versuchen, die Aufgabe selbst zu l\u00f6sen. Daher haben wir das L\u00f6sungsvideo erst dann freigeschaltet, wenn die Aufgabe richtig gel\u00f6st wurde (d.h. ein errechneter Wert musste in einen H5P-L\u00fcckentext eingetragen werden).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8222;Aber was ist mit den Lernenden, die selbst nicht auf die L\u00f6sung kommen? Die brauchen dann doch das Video, um den L\u00f6sungsweg zu verstehen!&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Diese Frage haben wir uns gestellt und sind auf folgende L\u00f6sung gekommen: Man soll das L\u00f6sungsvideo auch freischalten k\u00f6nnen, wenn man &#8222;schummelt&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h2>Wie wird geschummelt?<\/h2>\n<p>Daf\u00fcr haben wir einen zweiten H5P-L\u00fcckentext erstellt, in dem man ein vorgegebenes L\u00f6sungswort eintragen musste:<\/p>\n<div class=\"h5p-iframe-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"h5p-iframe-45\" class=\"h5p-iframe\" data-content-id=\"45\" style=\"height:1px\" src=\"about:blank\" frameBorder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"Schummeln in Kapitel Kostenartenrechnung\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Wir haben den L\u00fcckentext gew\u00e4hlt, um die Entscheidung, zu schummeln, eindeutig zu machen. Wenn man einfach eine Ja\/Nein-Frage zum Klicken genommen h\u00e4tte, h\u00e4tten man schnell behaupten k\u00f6nnen, man w\u00e4re nur &#8222;auf der Maus ausgerutscht&#8220; und wollte gar nicht schummeln.<\/p>\n<p>Wenn jemand geschummelt hat, wurde aber nicht nur das L\u00f6sungsvideo freigeschaltet: Obendrauf gab es einen Badge, der zeigte, dass man geschummelt hat. Wir haben das in vier Kapiteln so gemacht, daher hatten wir vier Schummel-Badges im Kurs:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3027\" style=\"width: 686px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3027\" class=\"wp-image-3027 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-800x330.png\" alt=\"4 Badges\" width=\"676\" height=\"279\" srcset=\"https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-800x330.png 800w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-768x316.png 768w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-1536x633.png 1536w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-2048x844.png 2048w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-600x247.png 600w, https:\/\/secret-cow-level.de\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Schummel-Badges-945x389.png 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3027\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Die vier Schummel-Badges im Kurs<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In Moodle mussten wir herf\u00fcr die &#8222;Voraussetzungen&#8220; der jeweiligen Abschnitte und Materialien nutzen.\u00a0So haben wir bspw. auch die H5P-Aktivit\u00e4t zum Schummeln ausgeblendet, wenn die Rechenaufgabe bereits richtig gel\u00f6st wurde, denn dann braucht man nicht mehr zu schummeln.<\/p>\n<h2>Lessons Learned<\/h2>\n<p>Mit Badges kann man nicht nur kleine Belohnungen verteilen, der Gamification-Ansatz l\u00e4sst sich auch f\u00fcr &#8222;schwarze P\u00e4dagogik&#8220; verwenden. Es ist aber wichtig, das klar zu erkl\u00e4ren und auch mit einem Augenzwinkern zu kommunizieren. So hatten wir neben den verspielten Namen der Badges auch einen FAQ-Bereich auf der Schummel-Seite. Dort haben wir erkl\u00e4rt, dass der Schummel-Badge keine wirkliche Bestrafung ist. Er zieht keine weiteren Konsequenzen nach sich: Man kann danach auch alle weiteren Badges noch bekommen, man darf an der Pr\u00fcfung ohne Einschr\u00e4nkungen teilnehmen, die Badges stehen nicht auf dem Teilnahmezertifikat etc.<\/p>\n<p>Aus den <a href=\"https:\/\/pmooc.eduloop.de\/loop\/Kosten-_und_Leistungsrechnung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">R\u00fcckmeldungen der Lernenden<\/a> haben wir ausschlie\u00dflich gutes Feedback erhalten. Die meisten von ihnen gaben an, dass sie anschlie\u00dfend die Aufgabe noch gerechnet haben. Vereinzelt haben wir aber auch beobachtet, dass Lernende zwar geschummelt, anschlie\u00dfend aber nicht den Badge f\u00fcr die regul\u00e4re Aufgabe erworben haben. F\u00fcr uns ist das nicht so wichtig, aber wir fanden es interessant, wie Menschen mit offenen Lernangeboten umgehen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p id=\"english\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>+++ English Version +++<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Badges are small awards that can be acquired in various situations (Stefan Meier and I published a <a href=\"https:\/\/ceur-ws.org\/Vol-1227\/paper52.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">workshop paper<\/a> on these scenarios at DELFI 2014). In the MOOC &#8220; Kosten- und Leistungsrechnung&#8220; (English: Cost and Performance Accounting, click here for it on <a href=\"https:\/\/lernen.oncampus.de\/blocks\/ocproducts\/product.php?id=2f30a110001cb22c621ad18630428d21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oncampus<\/a> or here on <a href=\"https:\/\/futurelearnlab.de\/hub\/blocks\/ildmetaselect\/detailpage.php?id=279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FutureLearnLab<\/a>), however, we used them in a different way: instead of rewarding learning progress, they were intended to prevent learners from cheating too quickly. In the course, we included ways in which &#8222;helpless learners&#8220; could cheat a little and thus receive further help.<\/p>\n<h2>Why did we need a solution?<\/h2>\n<p>In the MOOC &#8220; Kosten- und Leistungsrechnung&#8220; (Cost and Performance Accounting), we provided exercises as well as a corresponding solution in a video. However, we wanted learners not to simply watch the explanation videos and not even try to solve the exercise on their own. We therefore activated the solution video only once the exercise had been solved correctly (i.e. a calculated value had to be entered in an H5P &#8222;Fill in the Blanks&#8220;).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8222;But what about the learners who can&#8217;t find the solution on their own? They need the video to understand the approach!&#8220;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>We asked ourselves this question and came up with the following solution: It should also be possible to unlock the solution video if you &#8222;cheat&#8220;.<\/p>\n<h2>How do they cheat?<\/h2>\n<p>To do this, we created a second H5P &#8222;Fill in the Blanks&#8220; in which a given solution word had to be entered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"h5p-iframe-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"h5p-iframe-46\" class=\"h5p-iframe\" data-content-id=\"46\" style=\"height:1px\" src=\"about:blank\" frameBorder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"Cheating in chapter cost category accounting\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We chose the blank text to make it clear whether a person wanted to cheat. If we had simply used a clickable yes\/no question, it would have been easy to claim that they had just &#8222;slipped on the mouse&#8220; and didn&#8217;t want to cheat.<\/p>\n<p>If someone cheated, not only the solution video was unlocked: A badge was awarded on top to show that they had cheated. For example, we also hid the H5P activity for cheating if the math problem had already been solved correctly, because then there was no need to cheat.<\/p>\n<h2>Lessons Learned<\/h2>\n<p>Badges can not only be used to award small incentives, the gamification approach can also be used for &#8222;black pedagogy&#8220;. However, it is important to explain this clearly and communicate it with a wink. In addition to the playful names of the badges, we also had an FAQ section on the cheat page. There we explained that the cheating badge is not an actual sanction. It has no further consequences: you can still get all the other badges later, you can take the exam without any restrictions, the badges are not on the certificate of participation, etc.<\/p>\n<p>We only received good <a href=\"https:\/\/pmooc.eduloop.de\/loop\/Kosten-_und_Leistungsrechnung\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">feedback from the learners<\/a>. Most of them stated that they still calculated the task later. However, we also occasionally observed that learners cheated but did not earn the badge for the regular task.
